09 新加坡国立美术馆之“镇馆之宝”

我是堀川理沙,来自新加坡国家美术馆。目前负责收藏和拓展。接下来我为大家介绍一下我所在的美术馆。

National Gallery Singapore opened in Nov of 2015. We specialize in modern and contemporary art of southeast Asia and Singapore.

新加坡国家美术馆于2015年11月开馆,我们专注于东南亚地区和新加坡的现代和当代艺术。

Our collection started in 1960, with the CE donation made by Loke Wan Tho, or in Chinese,Lu Yuntao. He was the co-founder of Cathay Organization and a very renowned art philanthropist. He donated more than 110 works to the state at the time when there were no state level art museums in Singapore.

我们的馆藏始于1960年,藏品来自Loke Wan Tho的捐赠,他的中文名是陆运涛。他是国泰集团的联合创始人,也是一位著名的艺术慈善家。他向国家捐赠了超过110件作品,那时新加坡还没有国家级的艺术博物馆。

So beginning with the CE donation of 110 works, the collection has grown to more than 8600 works, which is the largest collection of modern art from southeast Asia in Singapore as up today.

因此从这捐赠来的110件作品开始,我们馆藏品的规模不断扩大,现已超过8600件,已成为新加坡最大的东南亚现代艺术品集藏地。

Our museum is the house in the very interesting sitting, so what happen was that we transformed the colonial period architecture, the former Supreme Court, and City Hall of Singapore into forming this new art museum. So it is an architecture landmark as well.

我们的博物馆坐落在一个非常有意思的地方,我们改造了一个殖民地时期的建筑,将前最高法院和新加坡市政厅改造成了一座全新的艺术博物馆,同时也成为了一个地标建筑。

So three highlights from our collection.There are many highlights in our collection but if I had to name three works I would choose three artists.

分享一下我们的三件镇馆之宝。在我们的馆藏中,有很多重要的文物,但如果要我说出三件的话,我会选择这三位艺术家的作品。

三件镇馆之宝

镇馆之宝01:《森林火灾》

Raden Saleh(拉登·萨勒)《森林火灾》《Boschbrand (Forest Fire)》,现收藏于新加坡国立美术馆

So one is Raden Saleh. He was a 19th century master from Indonesia, he was one of the earliest artist from southeast Asia to go study in Europe and he mastered the technique of oil painting. So we have a large masterpieces by Raden Saleh about 3x4 meters big and it was made as a gift to the King William III of the Netherlands. So this was during the time when Indonesia was under the colonization of the Dutch.

第一位艺术家是Raden Saleh(拉登·萨勒)。Raden Saleh是19世纪时期来自印度尼西亚的艺术大师,也是最早去欧洲求学的东南亚艺术家之一,在欧洲求学期间,他掌握了油画技术。我们拥有一件来自 Raden Saleh(拉登·萨勒)的大型作品,尺寸大约3x4米,这件作品在当时被当作礼物送给荷兰国王威廉三世,那时印度尼西亚还处在荷兰的殖民统治之下。

镇馆之宝02:张荔英《自画像》

And the second and third works are paintings made by artists who have very deep connection with China. There is a self-portrait by Chinese female artist Zhang Liying or she is also known as Georgette Chen. She was a very cosmopolitan artist. Receiving her training in New York, Shanghai and Paris, and participating actively in solo exhibitions, she later settled in Singapore. We have many self-portraits by her, but one, that is about this small, has a very captivating expression by the artist with her looking back at the audience with strong gaze of determination, expressing her will as an artist, independent female artist. So it is one of my favorites.                

第二件和第三件都属于绘画作品,均来自与中国有着密切联系的艺术家。这里有一幅来自中国女性艺术家张荔英的自画像,她也以georgette chen为人所知。她是一位国际化的艺术家,曾在纽约、上海和巴黎接受艺术训练,积极参与独立画展,最终在新加坡定居。我们有很多她的自画像。其中有一张小型自画像,画中人物有着迷人的微笑,她回头看向观众,目光非常坚定,传达出她作为一位独立女性艺术家的信念。这是一件我很喜欢的作品。

The third work would be a Chinese artist, Chinese and Singaporean artist Liu Kang. He is very connected to China, a close associated of Liu Haisu,he used to teach in the same art school as him in Shanghai, Received his training in France, and he produced many works after settling in Singapore. sceneries of that inspired by the landscape of Bali. So he was someone constantly exploit localization, the media of oil painting into something very unique to southeast Asia.And for that it is one of my favorites. 

镇馆之宝03:《画家与模特》

第三件作品来自中国艺术家,中国和新加坡艺术家刘抗。他与中国有着紧密的联系,是世界艺术大师刘海粟的得意门生,求学并任教于上海同一所艺术学校。刘抗曾在法国接受培训,定居新加坡后,他创作了很多作品。受巴厘岛的风景所启发的系列作品,不断发掘当地的特色,所有绘画的媒介都是东南亚独有的。因此,我也很喜欢这件作品。

I think museums have a very major role in reaching the lives of Singaporeans and also those who visit the country because it is a major tourist destination as well. By side, from organizing innovative exhibitions we also put equal emphasis on education and public art reach. And this kind of the means we take in making art more accessible, enjoyable and something that allows you to contemplate in your daily life.

博物馆的意义和价值

我认为博物馆扮演了非常重要的角色,不管是对于生活在新加坡的人,还是那些来这里旅游的人而言。因为这也成为了一个重要的旅行目的地。另一方面,除了举办创新性的展览,我们同样也重视教育以及公众的艺术普及。这些都是为了让艺术更加普及、更有意思以及能让你在日常生活中有所思考。

Before National Gallery Singapore open in 2015, there were previous art museum in Singapore, but in terms of scale, they has never been a museum that provides permanent display of works by both Singapore and southeast Asian artists.So permanent means long time display. So I find very heartening when we receive visits, from the families of artists or artists themselves, Delighted to see their works on display in the gallery and sometimes they encounters in the gallery space, also lead to discovering more xxxx material in the family’s collection, which will in turn allow us to conduct more research into artists and artworks.

在2015年新加坡国立博物馆开馆之前,新加坡原来也有一座艺术博物馆。但就其规模来说,还不算是一座博物馆,因为它不能够给新加坡和东南亚的艺术家们创作的艺术品提供永久性的展示,也就是长期展示。当我接待艺术家家庭成员或者是艺术家们自己来参观时,我感到十分振奋。他们很高兴能看到自己的作品在展厅里展示,有时艺术家们还会在展厅里碰面,由此可以在家族收藏中发现更多的材料,这也反过来使得我们可以更多地去研究艺术家和艺术作品。

So I think, you know, the permanent exhibition is something that might be perceived as a given to any museums. but in country like Singapore, I think the significance of having a permanent gallery has been felt and it is seen as something quite meaningful to have.

我认为,永久性展览就像是博物馆接受的馈赠。但在新加坡这样的国家,我认为大家对拥有一个永久性的画廊的意义已经有了一定的认识,这也是一件非常有意义的事情。

And this time I came to Nanjing for this forum, sometimes the visits like this to China or to Europe, when I find faces or connections of local art with Singapore’s contacts. It is very meaningful for us. For example, just now, I visited the 江苏省美术馆 and saw some articles relating to Singapore artist Liu Kang, so it is an unexpected encounter that lets me rediscover something new about Singapore or southeast Asian art even when I always see that quite surprise and it is a great experience.

这次我来到南京参加论坛,有时在这样类似来中国或者去欧洲参加论坛的经历中,我会发现一些面孔或当地的艺术与新加坡有着紧密的联系,这对我们来说有着非常的意义。比如,刚才我在参观江苏省美术馆,看到了一些有关新加坡艺术家刘抗的作品,这意外的邂逅让我对新加坡或东南亚艺术有了一些新的发现。即使我经常会有诸如此类的发现,但我仍然感到惊喜,这是一次很棒的经历。
